Oviedo, Dominican Republic – Mission Project
The Oviedo Mission Project was a transformative initiative led by Gospel Travel Mission in the southern region of the Dominican Republic, where there was previously no Adventist presence. What began as a simple visit became a long-term mission effort focused on evangelism, community service, and church planting.
From the very beginning, the mission was marked by faith and providence. Despite limited resources, God opened doors for housing, partnerships, and supplies, allowing the missionary team to establish a presence in the community and begin serving immediately.
Community Impact Initiatives
Throughout several months of service, the mission focused on meeting both spiritual and practical needs in Oviedo:
Evangelism & Church Planting
Missionaries conducted Bible studies, home visits, and evangelistic campaigns across multiple communities. As a result, lives were transformed, and a new Adventist congregation was established, where regular Sabbath services are now held.
Education & Youth Outreach
The team worked closely with local schools, providing character-based presentations, mentorship, and spiritual guidance to children and youth. These efforts opened doors for long-term discipleship and community trust.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
One of the most impactful initiatives was a large-scale VBS program that reached hundreds of children and adolescents, offering structured activities, Bible teaching, meals, and resources that introduced them to the love of Jesus in a practical way.
Health Brigade & Community Care
A major highlight was the Health Brigade, where medical professionals provided care to hundreds of residents. Services included medical consultations, dental care, vision support, medications, and health education—addressing critical needs in an underserved region.
Measurable Impact
- 32+ baptisms as a direct result of evangelistic efforts
- Hundreds of children reached through VBS programs
- 500+ individuals served through medical outreach
- New church planted in a previously unreached community
Stewardship of Donor Support
Donor contributions were essential in making this mission possible. Funds were used to support:
- Evangelistic materials and outreach campaigns
- VBS supplies, meals, and children’s resources
- Medical supplies, medications, and health services
- Community assistance (food, basic needs, infrastructure support)
- Logistics, housing, and transportation for missionaries
Because of this support, a community that once had no Adventist presence is now experiencing ongoing spiritual growth, organized ministry, and a visible church movement.
A Lasting Legacy
The Oviedo mission is not just a completed project—it is an ongoing testimony of transformation. Today, a local church is active, new believers are growing in faith, and the foundation has been laid for continued ministry in the region.
Thank you for being part of what God is doing in Oviedo.
